292These procedures provide a platform and compiler independent interface
293for memory allocation. Programs that need to transfer ownership of
294memory blocks between Tcl and other modules should use these routines
295rather than the native \fBmalloc()\fR and \fBfree()\fR routines
296provided by the C run-time library.

319as macros. Normally, they are synonyms for the corresponding
320procedures documented on this page. When Tcl and all modules
321calling Tcl are compiled with \fBTCL_MEM_DEBUG\fR defined, however,
322these macros are redefined to be special debugging versions of
323of these procedures. To support Tcl's memory debugging within a
324module, use the macros rather than direct calls to \fBTcl_Alloc\fR, etc.
