25.SH DESCRIPTION
26.PP
27.I Rogue
28is a computer fantasy game with a new twist. It is crt oriented and the
29object of the game is to survive the attacks of various monsters and get
30a lot of gold, rather than the puzzle solving orientation of most computer
31fantasy games.
32.PP
33To get started you really only need to know two commands. The command
34.B ?
35will give you a list of the available commands and the command
36.B /
37will identify the things you see on the screen.
38.PP
6bc80c78 39To win the game (as opposed to merely playing to beat other people's high

40scores) you must locate the Amulet of Yendor which is somewhere below
41the 20th level of the dungeon and get it out. Nobody has achieved this
42yet and if somebody does, they will probably go down in history as a hero
6bc80c78 43among heroes.

45When the game ends, either by your death, when you quit, or if you (by
46some miracle) manage to win,
47.I rogue
6bc80c78 48will give you a list of the top-ten scorers. The scoring is based entirely

KM
49upon how much gold you get. There is a 10% penalty for getting yourself
50killed.

82However,
83that Ice Monsters sometimes transfix you permanently is
84.I not
85a bug.
86It's a feature.
