14 Attached is the 386BSD user group registration form and
15survey. Please fill it out completely and return it via
16email, regular mail, or fax. We will put you on the Official
17386BSD User Group mailing list for information and updates
18on 386BSD.
19
20 A userdirectory file is installed at official distribu-
21tion sites to allow 386BSD users to contact and become
22acquainted with other 386BSD users. If you wish your name,
23company or university, and email address to be placed in
24this public directory, please check the box on the registra-
25tion form. (NOTE: You do not have to select this option in
26order to participate in the 386BSD SIG and regular mailing
27lists and other activities. This directory has been
28installed only as a courtesy to the 386BSD user community.
29Participation is not mandatory.)

33 There are a number of 386BSD special interest groups
34forming, focussing on topics of interest to the research and
35development community. Among these areas of interest are:
36
37* Shared Libraries
38
39* Filesystems
40
41* Symmetric Multiprocessing
42
43* Windowing Systems
44
45* Virtual Memory System
46
47* Gigabit Networking
48
49In addition, a number of smaller projects focussing on
50improvements in the kernel and utilities are getting under-
51way.
52
53 If you are interested in learning about any of these
54groups, or you would like to form your own SIG, please fill
55out and send in this REGISTRATION form and we will put you
56on the SIG mailing list (along with the general 386BSD mail-
57ing list) and help you form contacts with other users
58interested in discussing these topics.

85 386BSD is intended by the developer to be used for edu-
86cational and research purposes. As such, the developer of
87this release is making it available to the user at no
88charge, in order to encourage and facilitate its use in
89research and education. However, 386BSD has been a costly
90product to develop and maintain, and each release consumes
91enormous resources.
92
93 Release 0.0, the first complete freely available
94release of BSD for the 386/486 PC, was completed entirely as
95a personal project. 386BSD Release 0.1, the second release
96of a complete 386BSD system, was motivated primarily due to
97the enthusiasm and contributions of the Release 0.0 user
98base.
99
100 In sum, 386BSD has taken over four years of personal
101financing on the part of the developers to get it out to the
102user. Unfortunately, we are not funded by any granting
103agency, university, corporation, or non-profit company.
104
105 If you like 386BSD, you may elect to make a contribu-
106tion to defray the cost of development and to demonstrate
107support of this project. If just 10% of the number of peo-
108ple using 386BSD out there right now sent in $100 each, this
109project would be adequately funded for the next two years!
110
111 Should you with to make a contribution, return this
112form with your check or money order (suggested contribution:
113$50.00US binary and $100.00US source) made out to:

152transfer the funds for you. However, please specify that
153this is a "386BSD contribution to defray development costs"
154to avoid confusion with other items which are offered by
155UNIX Magazin.
156
157 There is no mandatory payment required by the developer
158for use of 386BSD Release 0.1. However, your contribution
159would be greatly appreciated.

175 A service.support file is available at official distri-
176bution sites. This file contains a unverified and dis-
177claimed list of people, groups, and/or companies offering
178support for 386BSD. We require that anyone wishing to
179appear on this list send mail properly requesting inclusion
180or exclusion, to avoid any potential problems. Requests for
181inclusion should state the following: name, firm (if any),
182contact address and country, contact phone/fax/telex/email,
183areas of specialty, rates, and experience. This information
184is only for the purposes of aiding users, and is definitely
185not intended as *advertising*.
