.TH base 3 "2002-06-01" "perl v5.8.0" "Perl Programmers Reference Guide"
base \- Establish IS\-A relationship with base class at compile time
Roughly similar in effect to
\& push @ISA, qw(Foo Bar);
Will also initialize the \f(CW%FIELDS\fR hash if one of the base classes has
it. Multiple inheritance of \f(CW%FIELDS\fR is not supported. The 'base'
pragma will croak if multiple base classes have a \f(CW%FIELDS\fR hash. See
fields for a description of this feature.
When strict 'vars' is in scope \fIbase\fR also let you assign to \f(CW@ISA\fR
without having to declare \f(CW@ISA\fR with the 'vars' pragma first.
If any of the base classes are not loaded yet, \fIbase\fR silently
\&\f(CW\*(C`require\*(C'\fRs them. Whether to \f(CW\*(C`require\*(C'\fR a base class package is
determined by the absence of a global \f(CW$VERSION\fR in the base package.
If \f(CW$VERSION\fR is not detected even after loading it, <base> will
define \f(CW$VERSION\fR in the base package, setting it to the string
\&\f(CW\*(C`\-1, set by base.pm\*(C'\fR.
This module was introduced with Perl 5.004_04.
