.Sh DESCRIPTION
The
.Fn _osname
and
.Fn _osnamever
functions return the name of the running operating system and a string
giving the name and version thereof, respectively.
The information is retrieved from the kernel using the
.Xr uname 2
system call, which is then copied into a static buffer which is
returned to the caller.
.Sh DIAGNOSTICS
If the
.Xr uname 2
system call returns an error,
.Dq unknown
is returned.
